artist statement
Ghost Trees examines loss of fauna as a result of climate change. The death of trees impacts our environment in a multiplicity of ways and has been the world’s warning to us for decades. To live and give has been their gift – as with all living beings, we must treasure and nurture while we are able.
About Elizabeth
Elizabeth Bowen working at her fulltime visual art practice from Praxis Artspace Studios on Kaurna country ( Bowden ) since 2021. Prior to her tenure in Bowden, she had studios at the Audio Centre, Mile End and Fontanelle, Bowden.
Bowen launched her solo exhibition ‘Ghost Dogs’ and was named a finalist in 2021 for the Tatiara Art Prize, and in 2024 Bowen was a finalist in Gallery M Contemporary Art Prize and The Fluerieu Art Prize.
2023 ended with a group show at Smart Art Gallery and was included in another group exhibition at
Praxis Artspace Gallery. She coordinated over 40 artworks for ‘The Art of Dying’ fundraiser in June ‘24.
An exhibition at Campbelltown Arthouse in 2025 premiered the series ‘Ghost Trees’
Bowen’s practice centres on themes of memory and loss, predominantly based on painted works but encompassing sculpture and ceramics.
Bowen has been painting full time since 2014. She studied part time at Adelaide Central School of Art from 2012-2016 and has completed various ateliers/workshops/short courses at AGSA, ACSA and the Jam Factory.
